IHC Health Plans, Inc. has changed its name to SelectHealth in April 2006. SelectHealth is an integrated subsidiary of Intermountain Healthcare. It is a nonprofit health insurance company catering to the needs of its members in Utah and Idaho. SelectHealth will continue to be responsible for all contractual and legal agreements previously entered into by IHC Health Plans. Being a subsidiary of Intermountain Healthcare, it is part of one of the leading integrated healthcare systems in the United States. At Intermountain Healthcare, doctors, hospitals, and SelectHealth insurance plans work jointly to provide the best possible quality at the lowest possible cost. Under its former name, SelectHealth received an "Excellent" rating from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), the accrediting body for managed care plans. In 2005, Utah's citizens rated SelectHealth highest overall in measures for customer service and for claims processing. It was rated highest of all Utah health plans in customer service quality in 2004 as well.

SelectHealth has been doing highly commendable jobs in the areas of diabetes care, colorectal cancer screening, access to primary care practitioners, cervical cancer screening, prenatal and postpartum care, appropriate medication for people with asthma, and controlling high blood pressure.

SelectHealth offers its members convenience, excellent service, and affordable health coverage. Under its previous name of IHC Health Plans, Inc., SelectHealth has earned national recognition for providing quality healthcare at an affordable cost, while maintaining the highest level of member services.

The company offers health insurance for individuals and their families, small employers, and large businesses. Its premium costs remain competitive in spite of factors like rising pharmacy costs, medical inflation, utilization increases, and so on. SelectHealth boasts of 3,500 practitioners on its network panels, which ensures that members have a wide choice among the region's top physicians.

The company’s managed care plans include traditional Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO) and HMO plans with a Point-of-Service (POS) feature. POS plans (e.g., Select Med, Plus, Select Care Plus) give members the option to use both participating plan providers and nonparticipating providers.

SelectHealth underwrites (insures) HMO plans. Plus plans are underwritten by both SelectHealth (for the HMO benefits) and SelectHealth Benefit Assurance Company, the latter being a subsidiary of SelectHealth (for the point-of-service benefits). SelectHealth administers all products. Members do not require referrals from their primary care providers to see specialists, nor do providers need to get prior approval before performing covered medical procedures.

SelectHealth also has a health and wellness program that is an excellent collection of valuable programs and services designed to help you maintain healthy lifestyles. This program offers you discounts on health-related products, educational resources and materials, access to prenatal care, smoking cessation, and preventive care classes, Health & Productivity newsletters, disease management programs and so on.

You can get in touch with the Member Services team to receive help with questions you might have about your SelectHealth plan or benefits. The company has another service team, Member Advocates, which helps you choose a doctor who is accepting new patients, get an appointment for urgent care, annual exams, immunizations, and checkups and learn more about a plan doctor.
