Formed in 1939 with the objective of providing much needed health
coverage to Nebraskans, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska has been
continuously providing the people with quality various options such
as individual, family, and group health plans that best suit their
needs. At present the company provides health care coverage or benefit
administration to more than 600,000 residents of Nebraska. Blue
Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska is an independent licensee of
the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association and a not-for-profit
mutual insurance company. About 550,000 people use a Blue Cross
and Blue Shield of Nebraska I.D. card.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska offers customers a wide range
of plans for groups, individuals and families, including: traditional
health care coverage, PPO coverage, HMO coverage and POS (Point
of Service) coverage, and also a host of Medicare Supplement plans.
The companyâ€™s plan options vary in deductible
and premium costs, but all maintain the same excellent quality of
service. Plans offered by the company include:
Blue Preferred, Value Plan PPO: A range of choices of deductibles
allows members to select the plan that is just suitable for them.
The plan covers hospitalization and emergency care. While some preventive
services are available, especially with the Value Plan, some others
are not. A three-tier prescription drug plan is also included.
High-Deductible HSA-compatible: With this plan, which is to be used
with a Health Savings Account, members are free to choose from one
of the Blue Preferred PPO coverage options and put their money into
a tax-advantaged account.
In addition, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska also offers
TempCare, a temporary insurance plan for those who are between coverage
or otherwise require a short term plan.
For people aged 65 or more, the company offers four Medicare Supplemental
plans to choose from. With the introduction of MedicareBlue Solutions,
the choice of coverage is now wider, including MedicareBlue Rx,
its new Medicare Part D prescription drug plan.
The company has health plans exclusively for Farm Bureau members
also. If you are a member of Nebraska Farm Bureau, you are eligible
to apply for coverage for yourself, your spouse and your eligible
dependent children. For families with low and moderate incomes,
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska has launched its Primary
Care+ plan. Its Comprehensive Health Insurance Pool (CHIP) is for
those individuals who fail to obtain health insurance due to medical
conditions. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska administers this
program on behalf of the State of Nebraska. Its BlueCard Program
processes health care claims you and your family members incur while
living or traveling outside Nebraska. Under the BlueCard Program,
you can avail of the discount and claim filing agreements other
Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans have negotiated with the contracting
hospitals and doctors in their area.
The companyâ€™s network of BluePreferred hospitals,
physicians and other health care professionals is the largest in
the state, which includes 100% of non-governmental acute care hospitals
